Cherelle's fashion style in this video ended up being copied by white artist Madonna whom many people mistakenly credit for it being the pioneer, when she did not start to sport the scarlet glove and that style of fashion until the end of 84 into 1985. This is why TMC moderators dub Cherelle as The Black Madonna, but more on this later.
The song was written and produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis one of the first songs that helped the due become a dominant force in the world of Black Popular Music and the Music Industry. It was also part of the (only) successful expansion of the Minneapolis Sound pioneered by Prince and his staple as their style and influence started to spread outside of their area and into the wider Music world of Black america mainstream culture.
